Abstract

Domestic violence is a scourge which, in recent years, has exceeded the staff limit to become a problem for society as a whole, due to its serious consequences. In addition to constituting a violation of human rights, domestic violence generates many costs, both for ill-treated people and for society as a whole. People who experience violence at home are less productive in their workplaces, have higher rates of work-related ausenteeism and often require medical, psychological and legal care. Victims of domestic violence suffer from impacts on their health, generating quantifiable costs, as well as others that are more difficult to determine. These include: pain, fear, alcohol and drug abuse, and self-esteem problems. The city of Rosario has numerous institutions and human resources with the task of preventing, addressing and resolving issues relating to domestic violence. This work seeks to identify and cover the measurable costs of domestic violence by referring to the main bodies linked to the subject and located in the central district of Rosario. In short, it is necessary to infer the scale of this problem, particularly from an economic point of view.
