Abstract

Simone Cecchini, Senior Social Affairs Officer of the Social Development Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) spoke about SDG 10. Reducing inequality between and within countries requires an understanding of the social and economic processes that generate it. Equality as a principle must go beyond equal opportunities, encompassing the means, rights and recognition of all people. Emphasis is placed on racial and gender discrimination, which deepens inequalities. Indicators for the distribution of labour income are shown. Productive transformation with equity is a key instrument for eradicating poverty, promoting equality and protecting the environment.
