Ni ‘a summary of the history of the mamelouk sultanate, nor a comprehensive picture of the mamelouke era’, this book seeks, according to its author, to re-locate these state servoppers, often of homelessness in society of their times, Egypt and bilâd al-Shâm from the eighteenth to the fifteenth century, in order to reaffirm the novelty of this experience of power.
