The will of trial: A theory of the trial

Abstract

This book, the thesis of which is inscribed in its title, starts with a short introduction around the trial speech. The promised earth idea refers to the anhelos used to define it and the utopias associated with it. This introduction is the key to joining the rest of the book, which is deployed in four harmonious parts. The first concerns the questions that we usually put to the test, which were presented in the form of stadiums. “The will of judgement” tries to answer the question about what the trial is about; “Origin, bautizo and generic constitution” in turn responds to its history, while the question about what can be achieved is addressed in “Euforión or the trial as an art”. The second part enquires about the test method, problems with writing, its link with social sciences and how it is at university. It concludes with a conjecture about his recent coups in Argentina, which can be read as a hesitant story of national testing and its confrontation with dictatorial regimes. The third part is devoted to Michel de Montaigne, his work and philosophy. This book does not claim it as the founder of the trial, unless we understand it as subjective, thematically diverse and sceptical text; i.e. a very specific type of test: the Mounignean Test. It consists of a biographical outline, notes about your readers, a speech about your philosophy, method, egotism and style. The fourth and final part is a selection and translation into Spanish of the passages in which Montaigne refers to the nature and shape of Les essais, a task which provides clarification. Its first edition was published in Bordeaux in 1580 and contained, in a single volume, the first two books. Recently in the 1588 Paris edition, a third and final book was added. Those editions were, in my view, superseded by the 1595 postuma made by Marie de Gournay, the adoptive daughter of Montaigne, on the basis of a copy corrected by herself. I chose to work with her, but turned into modern French from the edition of Guy de Pernon between 2008 and 2010. Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences
