Abstract
Since the second half of the 1850s, the construction and subsequent implementation of the Complejo Central Station of the railways began in Santiago. Thus, not only did the city extend its urban radius towards the landowner, but also the centre of railway activity in that sector, due to the convergence of the two most important rail routes in the country. Based on the analysis of various documentary sources such as the Ministry of the Interior’s archive, the National Congress Acts, reports from railway companies and the newspaper El Ferrocarrie, the aim is to rebuild one of the most important milestones in national rail history. The arrival of the railway in the capital not only marked the expansion of this mode of transport, but also the integration of a sector until then on the outskirts of the urban area, which, over the decades, was placed at the heart of the urban sketch of the capital of Chile.
