An approach to lexical learning and the role of lexicon in several Catalan methods and manuals

The comparison of a few Catalan methods for non-Catalan speakers shows that in the most common case of those intended for castillanophones, lexical learning uses transparent interlingual or cognate congeners while placing contrastive emphasis on barbarisms from castillan-catalan contact. This may lead us to rest on the issue of languages that are close, neighbouring and collateralised from the point of view of teaching and to distinguish between linguistic collateral and referential collateral in the same Community language area.
