Abstract

In 2050, the world’s population will reach 9 billion. How can we adapt to growing food and energy needs while preserving our environment? One of the major challenges of the 21st century is to develop a “bio-economy”, i.e. to create new sustainable production systems that link up the food, energy and chemical sectors.
