Developing digital documentary mediation

Abstract

Since a few years, libraries have been investing heavily on the internet: online catalogues, websites gradually becoming service portals, blogs and social networks. While the aim is to be present in the digital world of existing or potential users, libraries, both university and public reading, must retain their specificity, otherwise they will be embedded in the general float. One of the ways in which this can be done is to translate documentary mediation online, i.e. to rethink for the Internet all the means to be used to encourage a reader to meet with documents likely to be of interest to him or to open up new horizons. The book addresses this new challenge by proposing, on the one hand, a general framework on digital documentary mediation (what document policy will support? How to screen its catalogue, mediatise a heritage or video game? How to define your project and accompany the teams?) and, on the other hand, concrete examples to serve as an inspiration for improving or starting up in this continent under construction (what content does it produce? What tools should be used? How to write a blog ticket, an online magazine article, hearts 2.0?). Coordinated by Xavier Galaup, deputy director of the Upper Rhine departmental media library, this collective volume, which brings together authors from various backgrounds (academics, librarians and booksellers), is aimed at all those involved in the fields of culture and education.
