Abstract

The history of the University of Karlsruhe (TH) is given its first detailed overview of the history of the University of Karlsruhe (TH). The author Klaus-Peter Hoepke (deceased in 2004) describes the skill of the institution set up as a polytechnic school in 1825 from its early stages, through the landmark development of the Technical University to the present University of Karlsruhe (TH). As a historian and head of the university archive, he has accompanied the development of Fridericiana over three decades and developed its history through intensive source work. With its post-published book, the sum of this work is now presented. The university history appears embedded in the respective political-historical context and its scientific history. In this way, the reader is informed of structural developments, as well as of the excellence of research and teaching personalities in university history. In a liquid and always understandable way, not only is the marked turning points of university history clear, but also the ideas and drives that are effective in this process are made clear.
