Abstract
In the companies of the former Regime, stone and land have long been the main source of wealth and a constituent element of assets. As a result, real estate and land are becoming a powerful vehicle for meetings and exchanges between different social, urban and rural groups. In cities where the majority of the population is rented, the house has not attracted large stone gatherings. In the housing market, bourgeois and craftsmen are the most active, but all social groups compete for low-value or low value dwellings. Considering the city in its rural environment, the citadine influence is clear. Around Lille or Cambrai, citadine properties shape the face of the countryside. However, urban dwellers, mainly from the bourgeoisie, are entering into land play a tirelessly. The citadine participation is also scattered by chronological convulsions which put the idea of the ‘bourgeoise of the soil conquête’ into perspective. In the land market, therefore, rural people carry out the bulk of the activity. Working together, rural areas multiply small value interventions in a narrow relational space. However, not all of them are in action: the instability of the assets of day-old farmers, in particular, strengthens the position of labourers and farmers. By analysing the land and real estate markets, this book therefore seeks to understand the strategies and dynamics of the various social categories of the City and Campaign.
