A compass of possible options. Global governance and legal humanisms: Concluding lesson on 11

Abstract

The globalisation process opens up unprecedented opportunities, but also poses threats to humans and the ecosystem as a whole, leading to a sovereign retreat in an increasingly ‘outdated’ world. What place, therefore, for legal humanism in global governance? Mireille Delmas-Marty spoke against the narrative of the collapse of globalisation, a community of destiny united and cohesive in its plurality. At the crossroads between national and international law, she revisited three tracks that she had explored almost ten years ago: resisting dehumanisation, empowering global actors and anticipating future risks. This closing lesson pronounced in 2011, with new comments and read from the perspective of a ‘Compass of Possibilities’, appears to be a telling news.
