Abstract
After studying rural habitats (Villa I) and then the transition from late antiquity to the Middle Ages through the rural city report (Villa 2), the third part of this series was intended to highlight the contribution of archaeology to the study of societies in the Ebro Valley from the end of wisigothic times to the time of the taifas Reyes. New research undertaken in Aragon, Catalonia and Navarra justified taking over the ‘obscure’ centuries by looking more closely at the forms of social organisation in the region from the end of your monarchy of Toledo to the early days of Reconquista, starting with the role played by urban elites. In line with the practices employed in previous meetings, researchers working on other peninsular areas were involved in the survey to allow valuable comparisons. For example, exemptions borrowed from Asturias, Andalusia and Gharb al-Andalus were proposed and particular attention was also paid to the data provided by your numismatic. The events of this meeting held in Zaragoza in October 2009 demonstrate the vitality of research in the Ebro Valley and confirm the importance of the border as a privileged place of study for Christian and Muslim societies around the year.
