Abstract
Selection at university is economically necessary and humanely desirable, provided that it becomes positive and respects democracy. The problem is serious enough, in all respects, not to take any undue risk, let alone to commit itself to a theory or air intuition. A period of experimentation, strictly planned and monitored, should take place before any decision that really engages the fate of individuals.
