Web 2.0: Innovation or Fraud? Genealogy of a Phenomenon

Abstract

the term ‘Web 2.0’ comes first and foremost from marketing. It was a phenomenon of fashion concocted in 2004 by the publisher of highly respected computer manuals, Tim O’Reilly. The assumption in this article is that the term ‘Web 2.0’ is anachronistic and, it could be said, an insult to the pioneers of Web-All Short. Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web in person, does not recognise any validity other than marketing after: his original vision of the web was ‘people for people’, just like the so-called ‘Web 2.0’.
