Abstract

Revised national historical location by the Government of Canada, the Canadian National Memorial in Vimy (France) is another example of a flagship object belonging to the ‘identity’ category. The monument managed by Parcs Canada, as its name indicates, is intended to ensure that the event to which it relates is remembered. This is the battle of the Vimy peak that took place in April 1917, which enabled the Allies to regain ground on the Germans and thus regain hope. As the author points out, this battle has made it possible to anchor the national identity of Canadians in collective memory through their role in this global conflict, which was immortalised in this Vimy Memorial.
