THE EMBASSY OF THE KINGDOM OF BELGIUM IN WARSAW. ARCHITECTURAL FORMS AND THEIR ORIGIN The Mniszech Palace in Warsaw at the Senatorska street (mortgage number 471) had been rebuilt and adapted to a seat of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium. The scale of destruction was estimated to be 85 percent, but only 30 percent of load-bearings walls and foundations had been damaged. In consequence, the original plan and architectural forms are visible. An unfinished, brick manor house of Feliks Aleksander Lipski, Voivod of Kalisz – erected at the end of XVII centrury - was bought and modified by Józef Wandalin Mniszech, Grand Marshal of the Crown. Splendour of the residence was determined by the ceremonial function and position of the Mniszech family. Foreign legates and the king August II visited the residence. The palace was built under the conduction of a military engineer Burkhard Christoph von Münnich. Innovative architectural forms - especially a mansard roof and relief decoration – are pararell to Dresden’s architecture, for example to Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann designs. Such marvellous analogies, as well as many other aspects, ought to be discussed.
