Abstract
In recent years, the term “coatching” (“accompagnement” in French) has been widely disseminated and popularized to describe the intervention practices employed with various groups in many different areas (sick people, the homeless, students with learning difficulties, immigrants, etc.). Based on interviews conducted in France with pratician working in four sectors (palliative care, senior care, education, and occupational integration), we sought to determine the meaning of the term “coatching” in order to identify differences and similarities in these practices. In this way, we have shown the common ideological base of coatching practices that are in fact quite divergent. We were also able to clarify some of the challenges posed as a result of current changes in psychosocial intervention.
