“A discount”. The new translation of Notre Père

Abstract

In the new official liturgical translation of the Bible, carried out under the responsibility of the Catholic Church, is also a new formulation of the sixth request of Notre Pere, among many other innovations. Instead of ‘do not put us at the temptation!’, we’re told us ‘don’t let us get into the temptation!’. This translation is based on an hypothetic reconstruction of a priest in Hebraic language. Hans-Christoph Askani [*] shows that the new version of this application, which is intended to replace the old one in the use of our Churches, is philologically questionable, theoretically legalistic and problematical in terms of silver. In particular, it is the comprehension of the temptation itself which undergoes a moralising and banalising transformation.
