Abstract
In this piece, first published in 2008, the author reflects upon the meaning of the act of writing in the context of indigenous women’s political struggles. In conversation with a number of indigenous writers, scholars and activists, Monture theorizes the interaction between the writer’s voice and political independence. Her piece enlightens aspects of indigenous epistemology, of the interaction between life and literature, and of indigenous theories in literary criticism. Moreover, it offers a brilliant overview of Monture’s intellectual and political work over the years, which remain little known in francophones scholarly circles.
