The mobilisation of the people of North Africa for the liberation of Europe (1942-1945)

Abstract

The December 1942 North Africa Association (AFN) marked the end of the Vichy authority on the French Maghreb settlements and their encroachment at war at the Allies. At the heart of the French war effort, the French and indigenous populations of AFN have been heavily involved, sometimes on a voluntary basis, sometimes with their champions. The heavy cost they paid for the liberation of the metropole resorted to the cracks of the colonial empire.
