From partition to quantification: the case of the V X separation verbs in YPL

Abstract

Separation verbs V X in YPL as breaking a tank in pieces are inseparably associated with the quantum because the proces they express always reflect the passage from unicite to pluralite. They denote an original partition and reunite the meronymic relationships portion/mass and fragment/object. These partial predictions convey quantitative information through the verb, the plural of the Y argument and the names selected in Y. These names of such parts as the end, fragment, cut and slice are available to quantify massive, concrete or abstract names. Depending on the referent of the name specifiers and the discursive context, some of these names are approximate quantifiers such as in a hazelnut eclate or affective evaluators as in the end of time.
