Abstract
This paper describes the functioning of the internal medicine ward of a referral hospital in the Northern region of Cameroon. We focus on daily ward rounds. This ritual is found in most hospitals. Yet, it has not received the attention of anthropologists. The purpose of this paper is to show how during daily ward rounds, the disease is enacted through a special way of « seeing », « writing », and « speaking ». In doing so, we report observations that make relevant the study of medicine as a necessarily « situated » practice.
