Ideas e intelectuales en la formación de una red sudamericana antifascista

Abstract

Introducing the experience of intellectual antifascism is a way of thinking about the bond between culture and politics within the great construct of the 20th century: World War II. Here we develop the practice of cultural grouping where Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil joined this worldwide scale combat. This way, we get closer to the development of the most important practice of intellectual association ranked right below the University Reform. We rebuild the experience of an intellectual network during the 1935-1943 period, which is the Asociación de Intelectuales, Artistas, Periodistas y Escritores (AIAPE), founded in Argentina by Aníbal Ponce, together with a group of leftist intellectuals, communists, liberals, socialists and progressive democrats among others. We will review the defi nition of intellectual work proposed by this network and the focus within Latin American political situation, its relation with the development of fascism, the analysis of Argentinean culture, the problems, writers, poets and painters who join this network, and who their interlocutors are. We will go through all these foundations by reviewing the magazines: Unidad, Nueva Gaceta and other enterprises such as “Ediciones AIAPE” and “Cuadernos del AIAPE”.
