Groups of designers: an example of setting up a random assessment

Abstract

In sharp contrast to the nationwide trend towards a reduction of the funding for programmes aimed at jobseekers, the Groupements de créateurs (groupings for jobcreation), argue for increased aid for jobseekers, on the basis of people’s aspirations and projects, in order to make it possible for them to find sustainable employment. Hoping to see the results they can observe on the ground confirmed by academic research, the Groupements de créateurs seized the opportunity offered by the Fonds d’expérimentations pour la jeunesse (youth experiment fund) for a randomized experiment to be carried out by the CREST, a centre for research in economics and statistics, and by the JPAL (Jameel – Poverty Action Lab). The first months of the experiment bear witness to the importance of the partnership between actors and academics in order to reconcile the day-to-day working of an initiative and academic constraints.
