Abstract

While there are still obstacles to better intercultural harmonisation, significant progress has been made towards greater cultural mestivities and two-way communication, while increasing the percentage of those who consider immigration as a source of social enrichment. These are some of the conclusions drawn from our analysis of intercultural communication, carried out from sociological and communicative approaches with the aim of detecting their evolution on the basis of official data such as those provided by the Centre for Sociological Research in its public opinion barometers, the Eurobarometer of the European Union, reports of the European Committee against Racism and Intolerance and various printed and electronic portals and publications, including studies on the subject, including the CIDOB d’Áfers Internationals, Educa, Communications/Komunikazioak, etc., we also have recourse to international conventions and agreements (Amsterdam Treaty, Tampere European Council, Charter of Fundamental Rights of the Union), they show significant progress. And we compare our own reflections with the arguments of the authority of interculturalism specialists to stress the need to deepen the changes aimed at overcoming the barriers that hamper transformations and equality.
