O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar algumas reflexões acerca da importância da integração cultural no Mercosul, uma vez que parece haver uma ampla discussão quanto à integração nos aspectos econômico, jurídico e comercial, ficando o aspecto cultural relegado a segundo plano. Serão analisados os discursos do presidente e do ministro das Relações Exteriores do Brasil, no período de 1995 a 1998, com o intuito de apreender qual é a atenção dispensada por estas autoridades à integração cultural no Mercosul.

 The objective of this article is to present some reflections about the importance of cultural integration in Mercosur, since there seems to be a broad discussion about integration in economic, legal and commercial aspects, with the cultural aspect relegated to the background. The speeches of the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, from 1995 to 1998, will be analyzed in order to understand what is the attention given by these authorities to cultural integration in Mercosur.
