Abstract
Organ and tissue transplantation is currently a safe and effective therapeutic alternative for the treatment of various diseases, but the lack of organs for transplantation is still the biggest challenge for transplanters. This is a quantitative search with data provided by the 15th Regional Health Region of Paraná. After analysing the numerical behaviour between 2010 and 2015 of organ donations in the area covering Paraná’s 15th Regional Health Region, the results show a slight increase in the number of donations. It is concluded that despite the increase, the number of donations is much lower when compared to notifications of encephallic death, and there is therefore a need to intensify campaigns to encourage donations and to invest in the preparation of the equipment involved in this process.
