Abstract
The purpose of the specific research was to investigate the background of adolescent students and their behavior towards writing, their abilities as they perceive them and finally their attitude towards this skill. For recording the attitude of adolescents with and without Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD) we used the “young people’s attitude towards writing” inventory of the British institution “National Literacy Trust”, which was translated and adjusted in Greek with intention to evaluate a) how much young people enjoy writing, b) which forms of writing they use and how often, c) how “good” writers they think they are and what they believe about writing, d) what is the role of technology in young peoples’ writing. 40 junior and senior high school students with a formal SLD diagnosis and 20 without participated in this research. The results were compared to those of the British research of the National Literacy Trust and demonstrated similarities in both countries’ students mainly in a) the forms of writing adolescents prefer, b) the forms of writing adolescents avoid, c) why they think they are “good” in writing, d) how important is writing for life etc.
