Abstract
New french stations for Mycetophagus populi Fabricius and reflection about its ecology (Coleoptera, Mycetophagidae). Here, I investigate the distribution status of Mycetophagus populi Fabricius (Coleoptera, Mycetophagidae) in metropolitan France. This species is known from four departments (Bas-Rhin, Moselle, Seine-et-Marne and Tarn). Some new captures are added which enlarge the known distribution area to the Côte-d'Or, the Drôme and the Savoie departments and confirm the presence of the species in the Tarn. A bibliographic study about the ecology of M. populi indicates that it is saproxylic and mycophagus or saproxylophagus. During larval stages, it probably uses a white rot caused by Polyporus squamosus (Huds.) Fr. growing inside standing beech (Fagus sylvatica) (dead or alive). Adults would then exploit one (some) corticolous fiingus(i) on diverse broadleaves trees.
