Abstract
This papers aims at explaining on which grounds economic activity is taken into account by Durkheim in his last great book, the Formes élémentaires de la vie religieuse. Then the paper will consider whether Durkheim's strong thesis about the link going from religion to economy has been fruitfully developed one century after the publication of the book. Finally, the paper will examine whether the opposition between the social cohesion brought by religion and the social “incohesion” associated to economic activity still holds.
