E04589: The 6th/7th c. recension of the Latin Martyrologium Hieronymianum records the feasts of a number of saints on 6 January.

Abstract

The Martyrologium Hieronymianum is preserved in a number of early manuscripts, which share much in common but also diverge so that it is impossible to reconstruct from them a single authoritative text. Below we, therefore, offer separate English translations of each important early manuscript, and by clicking the 'Datum Table' button, you can view these different versions in their original Latin, set side-by-side for ease of comparison. For a full discussion of the Martyrologium, click 'Discussion/Bibliography.' The Martyrologium Hieronymianum commemorates on 6 January the following feasts: The Epiphany of the Lord Jesus Christ, *Ioulianos/Julianus and Basilissa, martyrs in Egypt, ob. 305/311, ( S01341 ), *Anastasia (martyr of Sirmium and Rome, S00602 ), The birth, ordination of the episcopate and the death of *Melanius, bishop of Rennes (north-west Gaul), ob. c. AD 530 ( S01279 ), *Lesser saints, on 6 January in the Martyrologium Hieronymianum: in Africa and India ( S02219 ). The translation: BnF 10837: "On the eighth day before the Ides of January, the Epiphany of the Lord. In Africa, [the feast of] Talesforus, Florus, Iocundus, Petrus, Marcus, Acutus, Ianuaria.
