Abstract
The central theme of the Republic in progress (LREM) is the ‘Renewal of French political life’. This far-reaching renewal of political practices requires the recruitment of candidates from civil society for the 2017 parliamentary elections. An analysis of the profiles of LREM’s 529 official candidates shows that a real rejuvenation characterises these candidates, a majority of whom did not have genuine partisan activity. There is also some mixed political sensitivities, although left-wing sensitivities remain highly dominant. However, renewal stops there. Most of these candidates have in the past had a fairly diverse political commitment and their socio-occupational background is particularly close.
