Everything is unreasonable in what happens in today’s world: more than five years of stagnation, rising unemployment and precariousness, decline in middle classes, explosion of inequalities... But this is the reason for this and where is it hard? This book is an invitation to travel to the territories we found up during the successive crises since 2007-2008: the crisis in economic theory, the global financial crisis, the banking crisis, the European sovereign debt crisis, and finally the crisis of our measurement systems. With an overwhelming observation: we are facing the future with rival eyes in the light circles that come from the past! We cannot find anything under these laminates if they do not shed light on the time they are present. Our economic theories — repeatedly invalidated by the facts — and our policies on the resulting objectives — price stability, competition, debt sustainability — are no longer able to account for reality or meet people’s needs. It is also a call for greater weight to be given to the requirement of equality without which our democracies fall, our economies are dysfunctional and the well-being of peoples is reduced as the skin of chagrin.
