Abstract
[EN] The building for the Municipal Theatre of Torrevieja designed by Alejandro Zaera and Antonio Marquerie in 2006, is a breakthrough design and an example of contemporary architecture for many. It was displayed in the New York MoMA as a representative of Spanish Architecture. A floating unperforated volume in one of the Torrevieja's most historic squares is a structural show that was largely polemic, and has left its mark on the city. A floating slab serves as the tiered seating with a capacity for 650 spectators. We will analyze how it is sustained and the decisions that were taken in the design and structural process. These decisions are definitely not immediate, and are undoubtedly an indication of the architects' ingenuity. The detailed design and structural analysis, and especially the digital modeling of the latter, with the corresponding strains and deformations, will show us the convenience of the structural system, as well as the project's suitability.
