Estudio de soluciones para la adecuación de la playa de las Horcas Coloradas (T.M. Melilla)

Abstract

[EN] The purpose of this technical solution study is to analyse the existing problem in the study area in order to subsequently carry out a diagnosis and provide an adequate answer to solve these problems. The first of these would be the solid coastal transport, which causes recession of the coastline. By providing a solution to the same, in addition, the Autonomous City of Melilla is offered an area to encourage recreation and satisfy leisure needs. The proposed solution would solve the problem of solid coastal transport by means of a planned breakwater with a sloped dike profile. The breakwater would offer a barrier to coastal transport, which would allow to increase the width of the beach via artificial sand nourishment. This action would improve protection against storms while at the same allowing to have a larger beach. In addition, a perfectly equipped promenade has been proposed to provide the beach with an attractive area for the citizens of Melilla in which they can stroll and enjoy the views offered by the landscape. For the choice of the optimum solution, which will provide a solution to the problems mentioned above, a multi-criteria analysis has been used. The variables used to qualify the alternatives have followed the functional, aesthetic, economic and environmental aspects of the same. In the phase of assigning a score to each aspect of the different variables, a comparison was made between the alternatives, from the first moment the alternative 0 (no action) was rejected by the fact that it did not solve the fundamental problem of the coastline erosion. Among the alternatives considered, one of them was artificial sand nourishment itself, whereas the rest of alternatives have been based on adding a second solution to the artificial sand nourishment. Among them are the construction of a sloped breakwater, an exempt (longitudinal) breakwater or a reef breakwater. After the end of the analysis, the alternative that obtained a better qualification was the already above mentioned, composed by artificial sand nourishment complemented with the construction of a sloped profile breakwater. Part of this solution was also the construction of a sea promenade. All these elements form a set of actions that aim to solve existing problems and satisfy the needs of the city from a holistic point of view. TFGM
