Efficient Transmission of Fixed/Mobile Services and Local Services on First and Second Generation Digital Terrestrial Television Networks

Abstract

The main objective of the doctoral thesis project is to propose and evaluate technical solutions compatible with the family of DVB standards designed for DTT networks that allow, on the one hand, the simultaneous transmission of TV content to fixed and mobile receivers in network configurations with high transmission capacity and, on the other hand, the efficient provision of local content in SFN topologies. This proposition is divided into three sections. The first section consists of a review of the state of art for the planning and design of DTT networks using DVB standards, the solutions proposed and implemented today for the provision of digital TV content to mobile terminals through DTT infrastructures; as well as the transmission techniques used for the provision of local content in DTT networks, the solutions proposed in the second generation DVB-T2 standard and the technical requirements of the future DVB-NGH standard for the efficient broadcasting of this content in SFN network topologies. Based on the state of the art, the main objective, the specific objectives and the expected results in the development of the doctoral thesis are highlighted in the second section. Finally, the third section describes the methodology and evaluation scenarios that will be used at the different stages of the research process. López Sánchez, J. (2014).
