Promotion of accessibility in the public transport system in the Community of Madrid

Abstract

Summary of the report [ES] The Autonomous Community of Madrid has for many years been distinguished by its activity in promoting accessibility and removing barriers to mobility by hindering or even preventing it. The universality criteria applied to the design and actions of the Integrated Public Transport System have had a very positive inclusive effect on the social fabric. The process followed has led to a scenario in which Universal Accessibility is an important player in everyday life in the region. However, the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) continues to identify opportunities for improvement and to take on new challenges that are analysed scientifically in order to establish the measures to achieve them. Today and together with other tools to promote accessibility, effective and efficient technological solutions have been opened up that substantially improve some insufficiently resolved secular aspects and new demands that can increasingly be addressed through them. Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), supported by commonly used devices such as mobile phones and tablets, provide decisive input in this area. All these actions are set out in the Strategic Sustainable Mobility Plan 2013-2025, the development of which will soon lead to the Community of Madrid’s Master Plan for Accessibility of Regular Public Transport Collective Travel.
