COVID-19: How to enjoy Christmas without suffering the consequences in January

Abstract

In these pandemic days when social relations have changed, the debate on how to save Christmas, how to maintain our social habits and family contacts has been established. But we have not yet been able to tell the public that our actions and behaviours during these festivals will result in the evolution of the curve of those who have been admitted and died in January, as was the case in the United States after the Gravities Action Day. If the classic cost of January, caused by the overspending on these dates, we do not want to add a cost to the care pressure, we must go through these festivals with a word in mind: Prevention. The arrival of vaccines, the most effective tool for preventing infectious diseases, is barely beginning in the last few days of 2020, only in some countries and applied to specific groups of the population, although their distribution is expected to increase in the course of 2021. Until then, and with a view to Christmas, we must continue to take preventive measures. Two areas of prevention can be distinguished: the responsibility of individuals, both at individual and citizen level, and institutional responsibility.
