Abstract
in this first part, based on a network of tests for comparing Peuplier clones and circumference measurements at 5 years, the study summarises the information collected on a group of 26 clones common to the 16 plots selected. With the help of the analyses in the main components, it has been possible to establish a typology of clones and sites to bring together clones with homogeneous behaviour in terms of vigour and adaptation to climatic conditions (on a south-west/north-eastern axis). Some groups are not influenced by the geographical location of the tests (low genotype x environment interaction), while others have “specialised” behaviours (high genotype x environment interaction). It seems possible to draw inspiration from this work in order to quickly test a large amount of different genotypes in the field.
