Transformations of work: Multidisciplinary perspective

Abstract

Labour sciences are a heterogeneous and constantly evolving disciplinary field. In particular, in recent decades, work has been subject to new constraints, sometimes productive, institutional, competitive or even ideological. These transformations in the workplace justified the organisation of a symposium entitled ‘Transformations du travail: multidisciplinary perspective’. At this scientific event, many Belgian and foreign colleagues shared their analysis of these transformations and their challenges for the study of work. These speeches and debates are brought together in a book which presents a dialogue between disciplinary perspectives on contemporary problems at work, such as occupational health, social dialogue, the sense and place of work, human resources management, changes in production models or employment policies. Each chapter first raises the issue before disciplinary analyses, based on law, economics, management, psychology, sociology or medicine, provide their own analyses and reflections. The eyes are always intersecting and complementary. In the end, this book provides a multidisciplinary overview of the knowledge of labour issues and the keys to action on these fundamental issues in our societies.
