Corpus Linguistics and language teaching: How can teachers, students and other educational actors benefit from corpora?

Abstract

This presentation will give an overview of the possible links between corpus linguistics and language teaching. It will take into account the perspective of different actors involved in language education, focusing on teachers and students, but also including language testers or publishers, for example. Several realms of language teaching will be considered, such as syllabus design, materials development and classroom activities (through so-called data-driven learning). While the talk will be illustrated with examples for English, the ideas can easily be applied to other languages.
