Where these data come from
Kurdish seasonal workers

Abstract

In the western part of Türkiye, in the provinces of Dyzce and Sakarya, the hazelnut season marks the recruitment of many Kurdish seasonal workers. These hazelnut collectors, mostly young and deprived, are at the mercy of the intermediaries who organise their recruitment. They are forced to live in unhealthy dwellings and, for an exhausting activity, receive only a low wage. They are subject to both the repressive policy in Türkiye against the Kurdish minority and competition from the international agri-food market.
