THE WORK OF YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW: LOOKING AT YOUNG PEOPLE PARTICIPATING IN THE EGRESSES PROGRAMME OF SOCIO-EDUCATIONAL MEASURES RESTRICTING FREEDOM

Abstract

This study focused on the public formed by young people with socio-educational measures who voluntarily participated in the ‘Se Liga’ programme, an initiative of the Government of the State of Minas Gerais, which focuses on accompanying teenagers who are disconnected from socio-educational measures of semi-freedom and/or internation, offering both individual support and support to the social and social welfare network. The overall aim of the research was to analyse the senses attributed by young people to work activities. The search made use of a qualitative approach and the collection of data was based on semi-structured interviews. 05 (five) young people who submitted a job or professionalisation claim for employment or professionalisation took part in research (five). Subsequently, the method of analysis of content was used to analyse the data. In order to better understand the results, it focused on young people’s perception of work in three times: yesterday, today and tomorrow. The results show that entering the labour market is one of the possible ways of social inclusion for young people. However, they face major integration difficulties, as they are part of a group marked by social stigmas, low schooling and sometimes lack formal work experience – a factor relevant to finding employment. This study also pointed out that the life path of young people influences their sense of work. In other words, when they were involved in crime, the work related to illegal practices. At present, after the protection and entry into the egresses programme, work has become idealised and professional expectations have become confused with the professions associated with the recovery system.
