Abstract
In this work we specify conceptual positions and advance some results of a research project we are carrying out with migrants of mainly Latin American origin in the La Plata region. We are looking for opportunities and ways in which they develop integration strategies – participation – intervention in the public arena – both local and in the countries of origin – by generating or integrating a variety of forms of association that take on different levels of organisation/formalisation, types of interpellation/incorporation and degrees and methods of participation. Notwithstanding the above diversity, we understand that the organisational arrangements we register – with their specific characteristics – share the vocation- action of setting expectations for better social inclusion, recreating ties and solidarity, and, in certain cases, channelling demands for recognition in terms of calls for justice at social or political level.
