The dynamics and trend of the urban expansion of the Great Corridors and its area of direct influence

Abstract

Currently, the system formed by the city of Corrientes and the nearby urban and rural centres of the municipalities of Santa Ana, Riachuelo, San Luis del Palmar, Paso de la Patria and San Cosme, with which it has a strong functional and economic interrelationship, reveals a great imbalance both in terms of population weight and in the complexity of urban activities. This situation demonstrates a scattered expansion process in the city of Capital, where the location of productive activities; poor connectivity; the incorporation of peri-urban and rural land; residential developments in peri-urban areas have formed a complex succession of transition spaces between urban and rural areas. In this context, work points to variations and trends in the location of the population in the capital and its area of direct influence, linking them to forms of occupation, changes in land use and the phenomenon of residential mobility, in such a way as to make the metropolisation and micro-regionalisation processes visible, in view of the definition of criteria for the planning and spatial planning of the study area.
