Noise silent in Criminology and the environment. Preliminary notes for acoustic sensory criminology

Abstract

In the field of Criminology, neither the potential of noise as a cause and effect of diverted behaviour, nor its environmental aspect, has been the subject of an analysis equivalent to that of other environmental phenomena. Green Criminology and Environmental Criminal Law are emerging areas of recognised importance in the so-called “Antropoceno age”, which identifies environmental problems as global challenges, and noise is no exception. This article analyses the concept of noise noise and its relationship with crime, space hegemony, surveillance and control, visual and sensory criminology, aesthetic order in cities, rural spheres and other specific environmental spaces. With the encouragement of the idea of a ‘sonic ecology’, it also explores the treatment of noise for urban renewal in the eco-city model, and its relationship with the nascent sphere of green Victimology.
