Abstract
In the first part of 2020, the COVID-19 health crisis had a huge negative impact on the tourism sector. With the summer deconfinement, there was a return to activity, but very uneven across territories and types of tourist accommodation. The objective of this study is to analyse the situation of supply and demand of rural tourism in Catalonia during the summer of 2020, and its relation to sustainability. The research scenario suggests that local tourism grew strongly in Catalonia during that period, with rural areas and the type of establishment of rural tourism being one of the main beneficiaries, compensating for the decline in international tourism, while making it possible to consolidate sustainable tourism practices.
