Abstract
This article describes and analyses the modus operandi and the decision-making process of a sample of housing storms on Spanish territory. A qualitative analysis of the interviews conducted with 15 prisoners in Ponent prison (Lleida, Spain) corroborates in a sample of convicted persons (most of them of Spanish nationality) the main conclusions reached by the comparative criminal investigation into home inhabited theft. The analysis carried out in the course of the study, first in Spain on the basis of interviews with residential raiders, is part of the main assumptions of the opportunity theories applied to residential raisins. The information provided by the interviews shows how the Theory of routine activities and the Theory of Racial Election have a huge explanatory capacity when applied to this type of criminal act, significantly helping to understand criminal behaviour. The results also point, consistently with previous investigations, to precise guidance for improved situational prevention measures and law enforcement. Next to this, new work streams are suggested for future research in our country.
