Abstract
El The purpose of this article is to reflect on femicide, which is considered to be a crime of gender-based reasoning. Provides a feminist analysis to understand the conceptual dimensions of the criminal type; it includes the main arguments leading to its penalisation in Latin American countries; looks at different topics defended by feminist and women’s movement activists; takes into account the existence of reactions triggered by the idea of a specific classification; it notes the general structure of the crime as approved in six countries: CostaRica (special law, 2007), Guatemala (special law, 2008), Mexico (general law, 2007), El Salvador (special eintegral law, 2010), Colombia and Chile (reforms of the Criminal Code, 2008 and 2010). This type of reflection gives rise to new studies in criminal matters and degenerates various debates at judicial and legislative level in order to continue the critical investigation of this expressive connection into gender-based violence against women’s bodies and undermining their right to live a life free from violence.
