Abstract

Anti-plagiarism tools, such as Turnitin in our case, have been built up in the right hand of publishers to detect bad practices in the use of external work. This means that the manuscript is stored in Turnitin’s database, which, if rejected, will affect the application of the work in other magazines. In this regard, authors should be aware that when sending their work to a magazine, they accept the conditions of the editorial process, the first step of which is to check that there are no plagiarism problems, with the consequences that follow. In Vol. 9 No 2, twelve articles are included, resulting from the research process on issues related to administration, education and engineering. In the administrative area, it starts with work to identify emerging technologies available for human remains, using technology surveillance and competitive intelligence strategies in the funeral sector. A study is then included to identify the decision-making process in the hotel companies affiliated to the Colombian Hotelera and Tourism Association, Chapter Boyacá, finding a tendency to apply some managerial tools in quality and customer service management. Thirdly, there is a proposal to implement university social responsibility in Colombian institutions, based on the 4 pillars of higher education: teaching, social outreach, research and management, adding environment and post-conflict. The administration area continues with the diagnosis of the Interdisciplinary Rural Internate Programme (PIRI), which is advanced in a Colombian university institution, in order to identify elements to improve its implementation. An investigation is also presented into the integrated management model applied by the family businesses in Florence, Caquetá, finding that although there is no explicit model, if there is some progress in its construction. The following article aims to establish the influence of mining development on the conflict in the western part of Boyacá, highlighting the accumulation of large capital cities by traditional entrepreneurs, as the main reason for the violation of human rights in the region. Education issues begin with a study to recognise the difficulties encountered by teachers and students at the University of Valle in using databases and learning management platforms, resulting in the proposal of strategies to encourage educational innovation with these technologies. The experience of an action research process, which aimed to restructure and update the institutional education project, was then presented in 24 educational institutions in Cali. An article is also presented to characterise teaching practice based on the use of learning situations in mathematics classes, finding that this type of situation improves the dynamics of the classes, with greater motivation on the part of students. In the following article, research is reported on variational thinking through algebraic tiles and virtual manipulators, noting that the strategies implemented motivated students to make progress in developing their variational and geometric thoughts. In the section on engineering, a data mining application is included to identify factors associated with the academic performance of students who submitted the Saber 11° test in 2015 and 2016, finding that underperformance is explained by attributes such as: the low socio-economic stratum, the low ICT index and the SISBEN 1 level. Finally, an article using the curves in S is included to study the life cycle of publications related to quinua production, finding a low interest of the producing countries in the research of this plant. Once again, those interested in publishing the results of their research are invited to send their manuscripts to the magazine; the formal requirements can be found at the end of this number or on our WEB page in the authors’ instructions.
